One more Pali local dies of diarrhoea

VALPOI: One more person from Pali-Sattari died from diarrhoea-related complications at GMC Hospital in Bambolim on Sunday, taking the death toll to three.

According to the relatives of the deceased, Vithal Sawant (70) was referred to GMC Hospital a few days back by Community Health Centre (CHC) Valpoi.
Sources at CHC Valpoi informed that Sawant was admitted in CHC Valpoi, as he was suffering from diarrhoea. Sawant was referred to the GMC on March 14, after his condition got worse and he breathed his last on Sunday evening.
It may be recalled that few weeks back, two persons from the same village, Savitri Paryekar and Dhanu Sawant, who were referred by CHC Valpoi following complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea breathed their last at the GMC, creating panic among the residents at Pali.
Later, doctors from CHC Valpoi and other officials were invited to a meeting convened by the deputy collector at Valpoi Mamlatdar’s office to take stock of the situation.
They were informed that Dhanu Sawant was admitted in CHC Valpoi following complaints of vomiting and was later referred to GMC Bambolim, after his sugar level went high and he died some time later, while Savitri Paryekar died due to consolidation pneumonia and respiratory failure.
CHC Valpoi sources informed that CHC doctors had recorded cases of diarrhoea and the team went to Pali and conducted investigations and collected samples of water and stool and sent it for further investigation. The officials also undertook house-to-house advocacy programmes to tackle the situation.
