MARCELA: The locals of Marcel, Tivrem Vargao and Bethki Khandola are demanding with the government to throw open the new bus stand as it is almost ready for the past eight months. It is still lying idle as documentation and paper work formalities are yet to completed, say locals.
Betki Khandola Sarpanch Dilip Naik said considering the inconvenience and traffic congestion in Marcel area to college students and public, there is an urgent need to inaugurate the project. Since the bus stand is not opened, many people park their vehicles by the side of road leading to the College at Marcel, which is putting the students’ lives at risk. The foundation stone for the ambitious bus stand was laid in 2014 by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar but documentation prevents the government from taking over the Rs 17.75 cr project from the contractor. Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and Deepak Dhavalikar were present on the occasion.
The work of the complex was executed under GSIDC. According to Marcel locals, the bus stand project also had provision for a market, multipurpose hall, library, government offices and a post office. A panchayat ghar on first floor is already ready for use. The electric wiring has been completed and a new transformer has been installed. Besides another power cabling work is progressing towards the complex from Amona.
Local MLA and Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude says there are few issues which need to be sorted out such as land sanad, occupancy certificate, which he is following up with the concerned authorities.
The Goa Bagayatdar has some issues in regard to getting them space in complex as it was doing business prior to the construction of the bus stand. Gaude said all the issues will be sorted out and the bus stand will be inaugurated soon. He also said if need arises he will also discuss the issue with the Chief Minister so that the bus stand is thrown open to public as soon as possible.
