PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured to sanction Rs 25 crore to each opposition MLAs to take up development works in their constituencies. Last month a similar amount was promised to MLAs of the ruling combine.
He met Opposition MLAs who were led by Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar to discuss pending development works in their constituencies, with the opposition pointing out that no works have even been tendered in their constituencies in the past nine months.
The MLAs also brought to the notice of the CM that they had submitted proposals for several works, including maintenance, three to four months ago. However, they have not been sanctioned.
Speaking to Herald after the meeting, Kavlekar said the Chief Minister assured to sanction Rs 25 crore each to undertake development works. “We have been asked to submit a proposal for plan work with an upper limit of Rs 15 crore and another Rs 3 crore proposal for non plan work by this month end,” Kavlekar said.
Proposals for the balance amount are to be submitted once tenders for the other works have been issued, he said.
The meeting was attended by officials of the Public Works Department and Water Resources Department.
Kavlekar said the Chief Minister informed them about how tenders were held back after the Goods and Service Tax (GST) came into force.
