PANJIM: As confusion and chaos prevailed during the day on Thursday, over the non-availability of essential food commodities to the public on the second day of the lockdown on Thursday, the opposition has slammed government over its mismanagement.

This was before the State government made an announcement on Thursday evening that grocery stores will be allowed to remain open 24/7.
Earlier, Congress has sought Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik’s intervention in resolving the food crisis.
Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat on Thursday morning had requested Governor’s intervention on the issue of supply and availability of essential commodities. “Confusion all over Goa due to closure of basic essential commodity shops and non-availability of items such as milk, bread, vegetables and fruits,” he said. “I am confident that Governor’s intervention will bring relief to the people of Goa,” the former Chief Minister added.
Goa Forward Party (GFP) president Vijai Sardesai also criticized the government on Thursday morning over its failure. “ The government’s abject failure to provide groceries and other essential commodities to Goemkars for last two days, make us again demand that all groceries be categorised as essential commodities as per central government guidelines,” he said.
GFP has also introduced home delivery service of essential commodities to the people of Fatorda.
Meanwhile, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party (MGP) MLA and former minister Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar on Thursday morning, demanded that the government should immediately implement the Central government order dated March 24, which makes it mandatory for government to make available all essential commodities to the public through grocery shops and ration shops.
“At the same time I appeal people to maintain social distancing while visiting shops, pharmacies and petrol pumps,” he said.
