PANJIM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange alert for Goa on Monday, May 17 as impact of Cyclone Tauktae will continue.
As of Sunday evening, IMD Goa in charge Rahul Menon informed that Cyclone moved around 200 kms of North-Northwest of Goa and the wind speed was at 100kmph.

The State was on Red Alert on Sunday as it felt major impact of the cyclone that will land in Gujarat on May 18. Several trees were uprooted, houses and vehicles damaged and roads blocked. Two persons died as a result of falling of tree and electric pole while some people were reported to be injured.
On Monday, the IMD said that wind speed will reduce and rainfall activity won’t be as intense as recorded on Sunday.
Mapusa reported highest rainfall with 197 mm followed by 150mm in Panjim, 185 mm in Old Goa, 75 mm in Pernem and Mormugao reported 59 mm rainfall, recorded in a duration of 12 hours from 8:30am to 8:30pm.
The IMD bulletin stated that the cyclone over east-central Arabian Sea moved nearly northwards with a speed of about 11 kmph during the past six hours and lay centred at 8:30 hours of Sunday over east-central Arabian Sea. It was about 120 kms west-southwest of Panjim. It is very likely to move north-north-westwards and reach Gujarat coast in the evening hours of May 17 and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva (Bhavnagar district) around May 18 early morning.
