CALANGUTE: Candolim Sarpanch Fermino Fernandes has stated that wells in Orda-Candolim have been polluted due to prevailing garbage dump at Saligao plateau.
Admitting that wells at Saipem-Candolim have been polluted by industrial waste from Pilerne Industrial Estate, Fernandes stated that wells in Orda have been contaminated by garbage dumped at Saligao plateau.
“On analyzing the water samples, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) had directed a neighbouring panchayat to strictly comply with provisions of rules for garbage dumping,” informed Fernandes.
As per analysis drawn by the Directorate of Health Services, Environmental and Pollution Control Wing, the faecal coliform levels of the four wells are very high that were analyzed for contamination, following a complaint by Candolim Panchayat.
