Order restricting printing and publishing of election material issued.

District Election Officer and District Magistrate of South Goa has issued an order informing people of Section 127A of Representation of People's Act 1951 which gives guidelines on printing or publishing of election material.

PANJIM: District Election Officer and District Magistrate of South Goa has issued an order informing people of Section 127A of Representation of People’s Act 1951 which gives guidelines on printing or publishing of election material.

The section incorporated in the order reads “No person shall print or publish or cause to be printed or published, any election pamphlet which does not bear in its face the names and addresses of the printer and publisher and number of copies printed thereof. Further no person shall print or cause to be printed any election pamphlet or posters unless a declaration as to the identity of the publisher thereof, signed by him and attested by two persons to whom he is personally known is delivered by him to the printer in duplicate.”

The order was issued in view of the election code of conduct coming into force with the date of election– March 3, being declared by the Election Commission of India.

The printing presses have also been asked to send 10 copies of printed material and the declaration obtained from the publisher etc, within three days of its printing, to Chief Electoral Officer of the State if it is printed in the state capital, or to the District Magistrate of the district in which it is printed.

The printer has to also send information regarding the number of copies and the price charged for such printing jobs.

“Any contravention of this provision is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months or with a fine which may extend to Rs 2000 or with both.
