The division bench of Bombay High Court today ordered the State government to complete the survey of MV River Princess grounded off Candolim and submit a report within two weeks.
The State Disaster Management Committee had appointed a team consisting of Director of Tourism Swapnil Naik, North Goa Collector Mihir Vardhan and salvage expert Anil Madgavkar to conduct a survey of the vessel.
Advocate General Subodh Kantak stated that the adverse weather conditions and rough sea was detrimental for the team to carry out the survey. The survey would be completed only in October.
Adjourning the appeal, the division bench comprising Justice S B Deshmukh and Justice U D Salvi ordered the government to present the survey report within next week as the team has been given enough time to conduct the survey.
The government earlier had stated that it was ready to continue the contract with Jaisu Shipping for salvaging the ship on conditions that they will give guarantee of Rs five crore, complete work by March 2010 and the ship should not be broken but re-floated and towed away.
