Orlim fights for its bridge

MARGAO: Expressing concern over the absence of maintenance of the bridge, the Orlim gram sabha on Sunday has resolved to ask the PWD to take up maintenance of the Orlim bridge on a priority basis.

At the adjourned gram sabha held on Sunday, members expressed their ire over the lack of maintenance of the Orlim bridge since its commissioning. Members pointed that apart from the absence of periodic maintenance of the bridge, the government authorities have not even white washed the bridge since it was thrown open for the public over two decades ago.
The gram sabha also adopted a resolution requesting the government to take up illumination of the bridge. While the Panchayat has been looking after the illumination on the approach road to the bridge, the bridge is plunged in darkness for want of illumination. “Based on the gram sabha resolution, the Panchayat body will write to the PWD to take up the illumination work since our requests to the Power department did not evoke any response,” informed Sarpanch Gaundencio.
The gram sabha also adopted a resolution to engage a government recognised architect on part-time basis to assist and give opinions to the Panchayat in matters vis-a-vis the mega housing projects proposed in the village.
