At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Domnick Norohna, the gram sabha rejected the pilot sewerage project proposed by the Goa Sewerage Corporation. As the vacuum sewerage line project entails payment of money by the individual households, apartment and shop owners for the scheme, villagers also raised the question as to why the project will be covering only 150 houses in the village.
On the government’s plan to park heavy duty trucks on the old NH-17 road opposite the house of former MLA Manu Fernandes and near the Sirlim culvert, gram sabha members said they are opposed to the plan on grounds that it will raise sanitation problem and involve security aspects regarding the villagers.
Members pointed that since villagers use the old roads to go to the fields, their safety and security will be at risk. Similarly, they raised questions on sanitation saying the truck drivers and attendants will answer nature’s call in the open in the absence of sanitary facilities.
The meeting also resolved that the National Highway should be widened within the 40 meter acquired area. Gram sabha member Wilson Viegas demanded to know why the Panchayat has changed the name of the Sirlim park from Sirlim Children’s park to Sirlim Unity Park. Sarpanch Domnick replied that the name has been changed as per the resolution adopted by the panchayat body.
