MARGAO: An overflowing sewage chamber in the densely populated Comba area has plunged residents into a month-long ordeal, raising serious health and environmental concerns. The issue has caused a foul stench to pervade the neighbourhood and heightened fears of well water contamination, alongside the pollution of stormwater drains.
Residents allege that while the Public Works Department (PWD) and its Sewerage Division have made attempts to address the problem, their efforts have been temporary and ineffective, leaving the area in a persistently hazardous state.

A site inspection conducted by the Margao Urban Health Centre on December 28 confirmed the dire situation. The overflowing sewage manhole has been spilling onto the road and into stormwater drains, creating stagnated pools of sewage. The inspection report noted that the stagnated water emits a foul odour and poses a breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of vector-borne diseases.
