PANJIM: Former Transport Minister Pandurang Madkaikar on Tuesday accused the State government of widespread corruption, alleging that Ministers are focused on “counting money” rather than addressing the issues facing the State. His remarks came after a meeting with BJP national general secretary B L Santosh, who is currently visiting Goa.

Madkaikar described the situation as “rampant loot,” rather than mere corruption. “It’s not corruption; it’s loot, rampant loot. In the name of corruption, loot is happening. The cash-for-government jobs scam is just another example of this loot. Every Minister is busy grabbing money,” he told the media after his meeting with Santosh.
He went on to recount an alleged personal experience, claiming he had to pay Rs 15-20 lakh to a minister for completing routine work.
“Last week, I paid Rs 15-20 lakh to one of the Ministers for a small task. I will name the minister when I decide to leave the party,” he said.
Madkaikar also revealed that he met Santosh to inquire about his future in the party, following his request not to contest the 2022 Assembly elections. “Nobody is performing, and I believe at least 50% of the sitting MLAs will be sent home by the people. We will see at least 50% new MLAs elected in the next elections,” he added.
Santosh’s visit to Goa has reignited speculation about a potential cabinet reshuffle, a topic that has been under discussion for some time. During his visit, Santosh met with State party leaders and MLAs to assess the party’s organizational work and also engaged with MLAs supporting the current government.
