Panel okays waste management plant under JNNURM

The process for availing funds under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Development Mission (JNNURM) for Corporation of the City (CCP) has finally got moving.
The sub-committee of the State Steering Committee formed for considering and approving projects to be forwarded to JNNURM has approved in- principle Solid Waste Management (SWM) plant for CCP. The proposal for SWM was pending for too long. Estimated cost of SWM as Detailed Project Report (DPR) is Rs 33 crore.
The Sub-Committee headed by Opposition Leader and Panjim MLA Manohar Parrikar has also approved two projects — sewage treatment facility and water supply to Panjim. The PWD which is in-charge of these two projects will submit DPRs by end of this months, told CCP official.
Also, a beautification project at St Inez has been approved in principle but land acquisition for this project has not been initiated yet.
Another project which has been granted approval by the sub-committee include disiltation of St Inez creek, informed Dr Joe D’Souza, who is part of the sub-committee.
All approved projects will be forward to JNNURM once they are approved by the State steering committee.
It would be interesting to see how early steering committee meets to consider the projects that have been granted approval today by the Sub-committee and forwards them to JNNURM.
It must be recalled that it is almost three years now that CCP is talking about getting funds under JNNURM.
