Panjim Launches Community Policing Pilot With CCP–Goa Police Partnership

The Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP) has announced a new community policing initiative in collaboration with Goa Police to enhance safety and security across the capital. The pilot project will cover the stretch from Altinho to Miramar and will be divided into eight zones.

CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate said each zone will operate a dedicated WhatsApp group comprising 10–15 residents along with senior police officials. “Responsible residents will serve as moderators, and any public safety concern can be immediately flagged in the group to ensure accountability,” Monserrate explained.

A training programme for these moderators is also in the works, with the rollout set to begin in areas with a higher population of elderly residents. The initiative aims to strengthen neighbourhood vigilance and improve coordination between citizens and law enforcement.
