Patto bridge in darkness, unsafe for women

The pedestrian Patto Bridge across the Ourem creek faces safety issues in the absence of proper illumination during the late hours. The Portuguese-built footbridge, situated a short distance from the KTC bus stand has several commuters including students and office-goers using this route to reach their respective destinations on a daily basis.
However, the evening hours gets a bit risky with no illumination. “It is a safety issue especially for girls and women, most of whom proceed back to the bus stand after work hours. The EDC complex has several offices besides many coming from the other side of the footbridge that use this route to quickly reach the bus stand,” Anita Sardesai, a senior executive with a private firm told this reporter.
Another commuter, Saresh Naik echoed similar views stating that local authorities should ensure lighting up the stretch for the safety and security of all.
The Patto Plaza complex housing several government, private and autonomous offices, companies, courts and eatery outlets, etc witness hundreds of people every day.
