MARGAO: Two persons died in separate accidents within the last 24 hours in Salcete. One incident was a self-accident in Fatorda, while the other involved a pedestrian who was crushed by an unknown vehicle.

Collem youth killed after crashing into parked truck at Mollem
PONDA: In a fatal accident reported at Sukhtali-Mollem, Tanvesh Rivonkar, a 35-year-old resident of Collem, lost control of his two-wheeler and rammed into the back of a parked truck on the highway at around 10.30 pm on Monday night. This incident marks the third fatal accident on the Ponda to Mollem Highway within a week.
The stretch of the Ponda to Khandepar Highway has been widened into a four-lane road for seven kilometers, but the road narrows significantly from Usgao to Dharbandora.
On June 20, a horrific accident at Usgao saw a pedestrian decapitated and crushed by a truck – his head was found 1.5 kilometers away. On June 24, another accident on the same Usgao road involved a bike rider who was killed trying to avoid a stray cow.
In light of these incidents, there is a growing demand from locals to widen and improve the road from Usgao to Mollem-Dharbandora.
