MARGAO: Reactions have begun pouring in from all the sectors of the society blaming the law enforcement agencies and authorities of Margao for having ignored the long pending issue of private bus operators and their misconducts.
Herald had in its Margao page highlighted the misconducts of private bus operators in Margao and the problems they have been creating. Now people have come out and demanded action against the violators.
Sources have suggested that some bus owners have sublet their buses. To earn profit, those to whom the buses are sublet are violating all traffic.
A commuter from Margao Tabassum Nissar said, “I always use the bus service to travel from Davorlim to Margao. There have been instances when the bus has taken over 40 minutes to reach Margao to cover the distance of 10 minutes. We are helpless.”
Rahi Naik, a college student said, “We feel insecure to travel in the bus. Often we have to battle our way to get through the crowd and also have to deal with the uncultured conductors, some of whom don’t have licence.”
Mahesh Dattaram Nayak of Jai Damodar Association said, “The RTO and the Traffic Cell are engaged in collecting money from bus operators daily and monthly as hafta and if at all someone bothers to complain to RTO they give lame excuses of staff shortage for not taking action against the errant buses.”
“This rampant corruption in the RTO and traffic cell and collected bribe money is being distributed to higher ups. This has been the trend for over 12 years,” Mahesh alleged.
He called for a verification of the assets of all RTO staff/traffic cell staff.
