Pernem people wait anxiously for a new bus stand

The work on the new bus stand commenced in 2014 and was due for completion last year. However, the pace of work on this project is going at a snail’s pace and the locals may have to wait for some more time to get their wish fulfilled

The people of Pernem are waiting for a new bus stand and a market complex. Work on these projects had commenced in 2014 and expected to finish in 2015.
People were hoping their life would improve with these projects. But the way the things are moving, it appears that they have to wait for some more time to experience their much needed requirement if not the comfort while travelling and shopping.
The people of Pernem have been facing this transport problem for so many years now and no one seems to be seriously working towards improving their life and travel facilities. However, some people are happy that the present government has taken the initiative and started on this project.
“Pernem having its own bus stand will be an amazing sight for our people,” beamed a local Neelam Pirankar. “It will change the basic functioning of Pernem town’s transport. The new bus stand will also increase business opportunities for Pernem locals,” Pirankar said.
The Rs 21.5 crore Pernem bus stand project with an area of 7,770 square meters and parking area of 3,348 sq mts will have single entry and exit point for buses along with a toll booth positioned at the entrance. Ten alighting and departing bays, two repair bays and six waiting bays are in the plan.
The bus stand will also have a separate place for taxis, also for rickshaws, motorcycle pilots and four-wheelers.
Along with this there will be facility for four-wheeler and two-wheeler parking of 50 to 400 vehicles respectively. The project is designed in such a way that travellers will not be facing any difficulties. The whole site will also come under surveillance in terms of security.
This project will have all the basic facilities under one roof, like banks, government offices, ATMs, public toilets, shops, coffee shops, etc.
Ex-Zilla Parishad member Deepak Kalangutkar said, “The bus stand is a necessity for Pernem. I am glad that after so many years, the BJP Government has managed to start this project. It is on last stage of completion and will be inaugurated very soon”.
“Not only the people travelling in the buses used to face problems but also the people using their own vehicles used to face problem of traffic jams because all the buses would make unwarranted stops on the roads to take passengers. But now since the bus stand is coming up it will be easy for the people to travel,” said another local Upen Pednekar.
