PONDA: Listening to music on his mobile phone while riding a scooter is believed to have proved fatal for a youth from Gavdewada-Pernem, when he was crushed to death by a fire tender opposite the fire station office at Ponda on Wednesday.
According to Ponda Police, Suraj Gavde (21) had gone to Ponda for some work and while he was proceeding towards Pernem on his scooter (GA-03-B-2210), he failed to notice the side lights of the fire brigade (GA-S-9514), which was heading to the fire office.
Police said the scooter hit the fire tender and Gavde was crushed under the wheels of the fire vehicle.
“Even after the body was sent to Ponda Sub-District Hospital, the music continued to play on his mobile phone, thereby suggesting that Gavde may have been distracted by the music while he was riding the scooter,” said Ponda Police Inspector C L Patil.
