PANJIM: Yeshwant Shirodkar, one of the petitioners, who challenged the postponement of the election to the managing committee of Serula Comunidade for the triennium 2019-2022, is amongst several persons charged with creating ruckus during the election scheduled on January 27.
The Porvorim police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Shirodkar, Ashley Lobo, Alex Lobo, Aleston Lobo, Alex Pereira and other unknown persons for disrupting the proceedings of the elections to the comunidade administration held on January 27. They are booked under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duties), read with 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code. It is learnt that the police will invoke more sections to the FIR.
The petitioner had contended to court that police personnel on duty did not take any action and a complaint was lodged with Porvorim Police but no FIR was registered.
Four persons had climbed onto the dais after Alex D’Souza was declared elected as president and Joseph Pinto as the substitute. The proceedings were disrupted when the group of people overturned the tables and chairs despite presence of police, who were deployed to maintain law and order. The election to the posts of attorney, treasurer and their substitutes could not be held after Bardez Mamlatdar declared the postponement owing to the high voltage drama. The government is expected to now issue a notification declaring election to these posts on March 3.
