Plaint against activist for community remarks

VASCO: Former Sancoale panchayat member Govind Lamani on Tuesday filed a police complaint against activist Pratima Coutinho r alleging that she made derogatory comments about the Banjara community and insulted his wife Anusha Lamani, currently a panchayat member.

Lamani was accompanied by members of the Banjara community from Sancoale at the time of filing his complaint at the Verna police station.

Lamani stated that the incident occurred during the special meeting of the panchayat on Tuesday and that he was deeply hurt by the activist’s statement that “there are all Lamanis in the Sancoale panchayat.” portraying the community in a negative light. The activist further took a photograph of panchayat board and again remarked, that “full of Lamanis here” referring to his wife Anusha.

Lamani stated that he was elected twice as panchayat member and that his wife had been elected to the position to continue their developmentwork in the ward. “I have my family’s long-standing service,” he said.

All India Banjara Samaj national vice president Suresh Rajput condemned the incident and demanded a public apology from the woman activist.
