PANJIM: A criminal complaint has been filed with Crime Branch against activist advocate Aires Rodrigues for acquiring Portuguese nationality.
Colva panch Calvert Gonsalves in his complaint on Thursday alleged that the birth of Aires Antonio Miranda Rodrigues was registered in the Central Registry of Births, Marriages and Deaths of Lisbon, Portugal as Assento de Nascimento No.1260-A on 2nd November, 1987.
He stated that advocate Rodrigues, after the registration of his birth in Lisbon, has also obtained various Portuguese citizen cards ie Bilhete de Identidade (Identity Card) and Cartao de Cidadao bearing No 11183778 issued on November 10, 2010 and which was due to expire on the November 9, 2015. Gonsalves also stated that despite being a Portuguese national, Rodrigues fraudulently enrolled as a voter in the electoral roll in Goa and illegally contested the elections to the Corporation City of Panaji.
Rodrigues has rubbished the allegations and said that complaint is under the guidance of advocate Rajeev Gomes and in collusion with Remo Fernandes. Rodrigues is representing the girl who complained that Remo had verbally abused her and Gomes is representing Remo in that case.
