Plaint against RTO officer for demanding bribe

A bus operator has filed a complaint with the directorate of vigilance against transport department officer for seeking bribe.
A bus owner Sudip Tamankar and his wife Shraddha Tamankar has filed a complaint against Assistant Director of Transport (enforcement) Pralhad Desai for demanding Rs 80,000 for the renewal of stage carriage permit on Chimbel to Panjim route.
“For last three years we have been struggling to obtain stage carriage permit for our bus No-GA-01-4193, which is a spare bus. Finally the RTA meeting on April 11, 2008, resolved to grant the said permit. However, then assistant director of transport V J Gaonkar, without following the decision of RTA granted temporary permit for seven days. The said permit was stopped on May 7, 2008 and till date it’s not renewed,” Tamankar said in his complaint.
Meanwhile, in the same year Gaonkar was replaced by Desai.
“He too started giving several reasons for not renewing the permit. Finally, Desai demanded Rs 80,000 for the renewal of the said permit, which is illegal,” the complaint reads.
“Desai stated that the said amount is required to be given to Transport Minister Ramkrishna Dhawaliar for the renewal of the permit.
He further stated that the permit is stopped due to non-fulfillment of the demand of minister,” the complaint added.
Tamankar has urged vigilance department to register a complaint under Section 166, 167, 409 and 420 of Indian Penal Code against Desai.
Earlier, last week Tamankar has also demanded a vigilance inquiry against then transport minister Pandurang Madkaikar in granting HSRP tender to Shinmit Utsch.
