MARGAO: There’s good news for people of South Goa. While an Administrative Tribunal for South Goa would finally become a reality by May-end, the government has come out strongly in favour of a Passport centre in Margao to cater to the requirements of the citizens.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday said that a Goan officer will soon assume the post of deputy Passport Officer since the vigilance has cleared the proposal, and promised to set up a passport centre at Margao. “I will pursue the demand for a passport centre in Margao to alleviate hardships of the citizens from South Goa when I meet the Prime Minister next month. A passport centre for Margao is a dire necessity,” he added.
On the question of setting up a Tribunal in Margao, Parrikar wondered why should people from Margao or Canacona travel to Panjiim for a hearing in the Tribunal and disclosed plans to open the tribunal in Margao by May. “The appointment of the Judge has been completed. Cases from Margao will be transferred to the new tribunal,” he added.
