PORVORIM: The Mandovi Fishermen Marketing Coop Society (MFMCS) has demanded an extension of the fishing ban till August 15, a day after a trawler capsized in the rough sea off Vasco and claimed two lives.
Speaking to Herald, MFMCS President Menino Afonso admitted that their decision to demand an extension of the fishing ban had been prompted by the tragic incident on Friday, when a fishing trawler had capsized off the Vasco coast.
“The sea is rough at present and it is not safe for fishermen to venture into the sea. Chief Minster Manohar Parriker had visited the Malim jetty on Saturday to get first hand knowledge of infrastructure at the jetty. We requested the chief minister to extend the fishing ban till August 15,” said Afonso.
