Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the honorary ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ title by the Republic of Seychelles on Sunday in recognition of his contribution to environmental conservation, sustainable development and support for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The honour was presented by Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during PM Modi’s three-day state visit to the island nation.The distinction marks the 34th international honour received by Prime Minister Modi from a foreign country and is the first time the title has been awarded by Seychelles.Accepting the honour, PM Modi expressed gratitude to the people and government of Seychelles and dedicated the recognition to countries battling the effects of climate change. He said environmental protection is a shared responsibility towards future generations and called for greater global cooperation to tackle the growing climate crisis.The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to creating a greener and more sustainable future through initiatives such as Mission LiFE, the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, the International Big Cat Alliance and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.The Ministry of External Affairs said the Presidential Distinction acknowledges Modi’s leadership in promoting climate resilience, the blue economy and sustainable development while advancing the interests of island nations vulnerable to climate change.President Patrick Herminie described the honour as a symbol of Seychelles’ deepest respect for leaders who embody the spirit of protecting the world’s oceans and environment.PM Modi arrived in Seychelles on Saturday as the Guest of Honour for the country’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations. During the visit, he is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Herminie to strengthen cooperation between the two nations.
