Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated US President Donald Trump and the American people on the occasion of the United States’ 250th Independence Day, describing the India-US relationship as a partnership rooted in shared democratic values and committed to global progress.
In a message posted on X, PM Modi extended greetings on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, calling the anniversary a historic milestone. He said India and the United States are connected not only through strategic interests but also through their shared belief in democracy, the rule of law and the limitless potential of their people.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the coming years would further strengthen bilateral ties while contributing to peace, prosperity and innovation. He said he looked forward to taking the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership to greater heights.
The message comes weeks after Modi and Trump held their first face-to-face meeting since February 2025 on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France. During the interaction, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation despite differences over trade, tariffs, immigration policies and regional issues.
Following the meeting, Trump described India and the United States as nations with an exceptionally close relationship and expressed optimism about future collaboration across strategic and economic sectors.
Meanwhile, the United States marked its 250th Independence Day with celebrations across the country. Cities including Philadelphia and New York hosted parades, concerts and fireworks, while Washington witnessed high-profile events centred around the National Mall.
President Trump was scheduled to address supporters during a major Independence Day gathering featuring military flyovers and an expanded fireworks display. Security was significantly tightened for the event, with authorities expecting large crowds despite forecasts of high temperatures and possible thunderstorms.
The celebrations have also sparked political debate, with critics accusing the Trump-backed Freedom 250 initiative of giving the anniversary a partisan tone. Despite the controversy, commemorative events continue to be held nationwide to mark the landmark anniversary.
