‘They made a grave mistake’ Lalu slams Bihar govt after security restored

RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Saturday criticised the Bihar government over its earlier decision to downgrade the security cover of him and former chief minister Rabri Devi, calling it a “grave mistake”. His remarks came after the state restored Z-category security for the couple.

Speaking to reporters, Lalu said the government had been forced onto the “back foot” after reversing its decision. “Bahut Galti Kiya Hai (They have done a grave wrong),” he said when asked about the earlier downgrade of their security.

According to a notification issued by the Bihar Home Department, both Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi have now been provided with Z-category security along with bulletproof vehicles. The move comes nearly a month after their security cover was reduced and replaced with protection by the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP), triggering political criticism.

The development follows Rabri Devi and her family vacating the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road in Patna on Thursday after residing there for nearly two decades. The property has since been allotted to BJP leader and Bihar minister Nand Kishor Yadav under an order issued by the Building Construction Department.

Officials conducted a final inspection of the bungalow before formally taking possession. The inspection assessed the condition of the premises, including its infrastructure and fixtures.

Rabri Devi, who now serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, had been asked to vacate the residence following the government’s allotment order.

The restoration of Z-category security has become a fresh political issue in Bihar, with the RJD alleging that the earlier downgrade was unjustified, while the government maintains that security arrangements are periodically reviewed based on official assessments.
