PONDA: Undeterred by controversies and agitations over the sopo tax during the last financial year, the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to collect the sopo taxes, as endorsed by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), from April 1.
The DMA-approved rates are Rs 12 per sq mtr for vendors inside the market shed, while vendors outside the market shed would be charged Rs 6 per sq mtr. These revised rates will be made applicable from April 1, as the old sopo contract ends on March 31, informed PMC Chairperson Radhika Naik after a meeting.
