PANJIM: Poinguinim residents under the banner of Poinguinkamrancho Ekvott, Monday, staged a protest in front of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation office at Patto, to flay plans to acquire land for the proposed industrial estate at Poinguinim.
The agitation against this land acquisition has been going on for some time and the latest protest and ‘reminder’ submitted to the managing director of GIDC says that this is a follow up to the objections filed under section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act and the representations made earlier.
The protestors asked the GIDC to kindly drop the said acquisition in view of the representations made by them and the villagers in view of the detailed report submitted to the chairman on earlier occasions.
According to the secretary of the Ekvott, Pradeep Mokhardkar, they were surprised that in spite of the earlier representation, surveyors and their representatives came to the plateau last week to continue the land acquisitions. He has demanded to drop the proceedings.
