MARGAO: Maina Curtorim Police are on the lookout for owner and occupant of a Maruti Swift car that stopped a van today at San Jose de Areal and looted Rs 2.22 lakh from it.
According to the police, one Akshay Desai, a resident of Kudal had come with live chicken that he used to deliver to people in Goa. This morning he delivered the chicken to a person at Quepem and was returning to Kudal with the cash paid to him for the chicken delivered.
However, when he reached Don Khuris at San Jose de Areal a person driving a Maruti Swift overtook the van and parked diagonally across thus blocking the van. The car driver then came and demanded the money from Akshay who out of fear gave the money that was given to him for delivering the chicken.
After taking the money amounting to Rs 2.22 lakh, the person drove away the car and disappeared from the scene.
Police checked the registration number of the car and discovered that the number plate was apparently changed as the number plate on the vehicle was originally given to a Maruti Alto vehicle.
Police expressed confidence in tracing the culprit as they claim to have an idea about who he is.
