CANACONA: In an order which could provide relief to the businessmen community at Chaudi, South Goa Collector N D Agrawal has directed Canacona Police to provide police patrolling in Chaudi town with immediate effect.
The order was brokered by members of Association of Businessmen of Canacona (ABC) in a video conferencing from Canacona Deputy Collector’s office to the Collector (South) on Friday.
It may be recalled that on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, burglars bent gates and shutters of about 12 establishments at Nagarcem and Chaudi, besides targeting a bank.
According to ABC executive member Krishna Dessai, during video interaction, Collector (South) Agrawal on Friday directed SP Shekar Prabhudessai to mandatorily enforce police patrolling at Chaudi to prevent activities that took place on Wednesday night.
“Collector also asked us to inform him if police patrolling is not enforced fruitfully at Chaudi town immediately,” Dessai informed.
When contacted, Canaocna PI Harischandra Madkaikar reiterated that Canacona police beat teams are already enforcing three types of patrolling – using a police jeep, motorcycle-borne policemen taking rounds and foot patrolling in heavily saturated business and residential localities like Chaudi.
Meanwhile, Canaocna Police rounded up four suspects in connection with the 12 burglaries on Wednesday night.
