Minister and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader Sudin Dhavalikar on Tuesday said that the Ponda Assembly by-elections are likely to be declared soon and could be held sometime in March or during the first week of April.
Speaking to the media, Dhavalikar said the by-polls may be conducted alongside elections in states such as West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. However, he maintained that it would not be appropriate for him to comment in detail as the MGP is part of an alliance.

“The Ponda by-polls are likely to be declared. It will be somewhere in March or the first week of April, and it can be held along with elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. It wouldn’t be appropriate to speak about it as we are in an alliance. MGP has already declared that it will stand with the BJP,” Dhavalikar said. Dhavalikar said that in a democracy, every individual has the right to participate in the political process.
Dhavalikar reiterated that political developments should be viewed within the framework of democratic values and alliance commitments, adding that the MGP remains firm in its support for the BJP.
