Ponda-Curti Khandepar NH stretch in darkness

PONDA: The seven-km stretch of the National Highway from Ponda to Curti Khandepar including four-lane new Khandepar bridge continues to remain in darkness over the non-functioning of streetlights.

The locals of Curti Khandepar informed that in a letter to PWD NH they had complained about the non-functioning of streetlights.

Rocky Dias, a resident said he had complained to NH engineers in October with regards to the above problem.  It is pertinent to note that it is almost two years since the widened Ponda-Curti Khandepar stretch was opened. The bridge too was inaugurated. Except, for a few streetlights along the stretch most are not functioning.  The locals had also launched a candlelight protest on Saturday to draw the government’s attention.

According to Rocky Dias, in absence of proper streetlights at some places, the NH has become hot spot for parties and immoral activities. He said the movement of stray cattle on road is also dangerous to motorists.
