PONDA/MARGAO: Ponda witnessed heavy rains showers along with thunderstorm, hailstorm and gusty wind from 2.30 pm that lasted for almost half an hour, on Friday.
At some places, trees were uprooted due to gusty wind.
It was a cloudy atmosphere as it rained heavily giving a feeling of monsoon season.
Following heavy rains, the temperature dropped and the locals get experiencing some chills. Later again at 8 pm, the rain was witnessed but on a moderate scale.
Meanwhile, the unexpected showers in the afternoon played spoilsport with the Shiv Samrajya Group as their Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti procession was adversely affected and though the crowd grew in numbers later after the showers stopped, but the enthusiasm was lacking.
In the first place, the rains delayed the commencement of the procession from Housing Board. It started more than an hour after the stipulated time with a very small crowd.
However, as the rains stopped, the crowd started increasing. By 7 pm when the procession reached the Power House, there were quite a number of people participating with many of them on the two wheelers.
