PONDA: Ponda market vendors on Wednesday threatened to come on to the road and observe Ponda bandh if Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) fails to solve the issue of footpath vendors on the road and provide parking space.
The Ponda market vendors called a meeting at Ponda market and warned PMC to clear the vendors from the footpaths and provide parking space in their place to the people visiting Ponda market.
The vendors have given three days time to PMC to solve this and other market-related issues including sopo tax, failing which they threatened to come on to the road and observe a Ponda bandh.
Addressing media persons after the meeting, Ponda market vendors leader Kishore Mamlekar said due to lack of parking space, people are reluctant to enter the market and go elsewhere and vendors doing their business in the shed lose customers.
“There are also other issues including narrow pathway in the market, due to which women often blame men and quarrel with them alleging that they intentionally touched them, thereby outraging their modesty. Therefore, the vendors have demanded that the pathway should be widened,” he said.
The vendors also demanded withdrawal of cases filed by PMC against vendors and abolishing sopo tax in the market.
