PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to complete pending development projects, including the long-delayed Golden Jubilee Project, with an estimated cost of Rs 3.35 crore.

PMC Chairperson Anand Naik informed about the decision following a council meeting and the inauguration of a newly purchased tipper truck by Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik.
The foundation stone for the Golden Jubilee Project was laid in 2011. This ambitious initiative, which includes shops, offices, a theatre, a hall, and other facilities, has faced numerous delays. Originally sanctioned during the Congress regime to commemorate the golden jubilee of Goa’s Liberation, the project was budgeted at Rs 2 crore.
The PMC has prepared a fresh estimate for the project and has awarded the contract to a contractor who is expected to commence work soon, with completion anticipated within the next six months.
Chairperson Naik also informed that the construction of a new administrative building near the PMC office is progressing well, with an expected completion date of December. This project will add two additional storeys to the existing structure.
Additionally, efforts are underway to initiate the Palika Bazaar Project at Ponda market. As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, a cleanliness drive will take place from September 17 to October 2, with prizes awarded to each ward that maintains cleanliness in their area.
