MAPUSA: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday said most police operating with poor facilities vent their frustrations on the people.
“Maximum police burst out their anger towards the public because they don’t get proper facilities. They feel that there is no one to take care of their needs on duty. They don’t have proper barracks (to live),” Parsekar said while inaugurating the Mapusa Police Station state-of-the-art building.
He said the building has been constructed taking into consideration the requirement of police officials on duty and it is far better than the State headquarters in Panjim.
“This police station is not even a district headquarter but the building is far better than the State Headquarters in Panjim,” Parsekar said adding, “I fear that Director General of Police might request me to shift the HQ to Mapusa in this building.”
He said this is the third refurbished police station building he has inaugurated after Bicholim and Pernem, and claimed that the State government is on a development spree.
Director General of Police (DPG) Muktesh Chandar said Quepem police station is next one to be rebuilt as a tender has been awarded and work should be completed soon.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza said Mapusa police station covers parts of seven constituencies and demanded that it should have two PIs.
