Portion of KR tunnel lined wall collapses at Pernem

Five trains diverted via Londa-Miraj route

PERNEM: A portion of the Konkan Railway tunnel lined wall at Pernem collapsed in the wee hours of Thursday due to heavy rains forcing the authorities to divert five trains via Londa-Miraj route. 

The tunnel is 400 metres from Malpem-Pernem Railway Station.

KR officials, who immediately rushed to the site, began clearing the mud and restoring the five-metre long tunnel lined wall inside tunnel 384/6-7 located between Madure and Pernem Railway Station of Karwar region.

Officials informed that the tunnel lined wall collapsed due to heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday, which blocked the track with mud prompting the railway authorities to suspend the train movement in this section till further notice.

Sources informed that no casualties or injuries were reported as there was no train scheduled at that time.

Meanwhile, the Konkan Railway authorities have diverted five trains via Londa-Miraj route and have appealed the passengers to contact 022-27587939 & 10722 for any inquiry.
