MARGAO: The question of some members holding Portuguese passports figured at the Sunday gram sabha of Ambelim panchayat.
Sarpanch Loreta Martinho D’Silva, however, asked the gram sabha member expenditure to produce evidence promising to initiate action. The gram sabha members were also told that any villagers holding Portuguese passport would be debarred from attending the gram sabha.
Villagers also raised apprehension on the retaining wall being constructed at Gonchem bhat and demanded that the project report on the 5 MLD water treatment plant to be commenced at Sankhale Tolem be presented before the gram sabha as the villagers alleged the project would be disastrous to the locals having fields in the area.
A gram sabha member also demanded that the panchayat maintain proper record of all files of panchayat as the panchayat body failed to trace a file pertaining to proposed road construction in the year 1986.The sarpanch clarified that project of road proposed by then sarpanch the road was not within the jurisdiction of the panchayat but within the Velim panchayat.
Villagers also demanded that power department issue bills every month as the consumers were facing hardships as power bills are being issued after two months and also for payments being made through cheques. The villagers demanded that the panchayat body take the issue with the authorities concerned.
