Porvorim resident cheated of Rs 2.71 lakh in online fraud

PANJIM: The Porvorim Police have booked two persons for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs 2.71 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Azim Singh and Manali Shah.

According to the police, Brenda Mascarenhas, resident of Green Hill, Porvorim, lodged a complaint stating that the accused pretended to be professor and assistant professor of an online company where they would buy shares in the Indian stock market.

They allegedly induced the complainant to deposit, trade and withdraw in an institutional account as is done before purchasing shares from an open market.  

They made her download Zoska App and asked her to deposit Rs 2,71,432  through online bank transaction. However, later the complainant realised that she could neither trade shares nor could withdraw the invested money. 

  The incident occurred on January 17, 2024. An offence has been registered under Sections 419 and 420 Indian Penal Code and sec 66D of IT Act.
