Porvorim Residents Protest at Mapusa Police Station Over Alleged Illegal Dog Shelter, Demand Rescue of ‘Brownie’

Residents of Porvorim, led by advocate Pratima Coutinho, staged a protest outside the Mapusa Police Station demanding the rescue of a community dog allegedly being kept at an illegal shelter in Nachinola.

The protestors accused Pankaj Khandelia of running an unauthorized facility named Fur N Fluffs Rescue Centre and unlawfully keeping the dog, “Brownie.”

During the protest, held in the presence of Adv. Coutinho, the Police Inspector of Mapusa Police Station assured residents that appropriate action would be taken. Police officials stated that Khandelia would be summoned on Friday along with relevant authorities, and necessary steps would be initiated to secure the dog’s rescue.

The incident has sparked concern among locals over the operation of unregistered animal shelters in the area, with residents calling for stricter oversight and enforcement to ensure animal welfare and compliance with regulations.
