PANJIM: The Mandrem Police arrested Mirnank Singh from Haryana for allegedly posing as high ranking Goa government official and availing of facilities worth Rs lakh which included accommodation, food and drinks at a resort, officials stated on Sunday.
According to police, Rohit Gokarnekar, legal advisor of Thalassa Beach Resort, Ashwem, lodged a complaint stating that the accused allegedly impersonated himself as a high ranking Goa government official and induced the complainant to accommodate him in a room at the resort from January 2 to 4. Singh then allegedly availed of all the facilities including food, beverages and stay but refused to pay his bill which amounted to Rs 2.09 lakh.
The accused was exposed after the resort management suspected something amiss about the credentials of the impersonator and immediately contacted the Mandrem police.
An FIR under section 204 (impersonating as public servant or falsely claiming to hold a public office) and 318(4) (Cheating) of BNS 2023 has been registered and investigation is in progress, police said.
