Power Min calls for installing solar panel in fallow fields

MARGAO: Stating that the government has initiated works pertaining to revamping the power infrastructure, Power Minister Ramkrisnha Sudin Dhavlikar appealed to the farming community to stress on taking maximum benefits in setting up solar power panels in the fallow agriculture land. The reason for this he explained was that power is not generated in Goa.

Addressing the gathering at Margao on Sunday Dhavlikar stated that there are good opportunities with regard to generating solar power by erecting solar power panels in the fields, which are kept fallow.  He said that the government has noticed huge agricultural land is being kept fallow and hence these barren fields can help to generate solar power effectively.

“The government has made provision of funds in order to carry out huge infrastructure development pertaining to the power sector and it will be a revolutionary effort. Major impact will be seen in the next five years,” Power Minister said.

Dhavlikar informed that a new scheme has been launched by the Department of Renewable Energy appealing to the farming community to avail the benefits in order to generate the solar power. According to him, Goa will be able to generate nearly 150 megawatts of solar power in the next three years, if the scheme turns successful here.

On Sunday, Power Minister in the presence of Digambar Kamat, Damodar Shirodkar and others launched works related to power infrastructure amounting to Rs 17 crore, at Margao.
