MARGAO: The frequent power cuts across Salcete have irked the local residents who have called on the Electricity Department to address the issue as their electrical appliances at home have been damaged.

“Whenever there are rains, there are power cuts and when the rain stops, the voltage fluctuations do not stop but take place regularly,” said Aanand Bhise from Margao.
Residents have complained that such regular power cuts and voltage fluctuations have already damaged their electrical appliances at home such as their refrigerator, TV, etc.
“No one is bothered to pay us compensation for such things and we don’t insure such items either. However, the Elect Dept sends us a warning if we do not pay these high inflated bills every month. Where is the quality service for such expensive rates,” questioned Savia Da Cunha from Velim.
Locals further complained that the frequent power outages disturb their sleep and create problems when they are carrying out their daily chores at home.

Locals also added that they had faced similar issues in the summer and had hoped that the Department would have addressed these problems before the monsoon season could set in given what had happened in the previous monsoon.
