PANJIM: Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Friday said that the power tariff hike seems inevitable but that the matter will be decided by the State Cabinet.

“Government is granting a subsidy of Rs 437 cr every year as the tariff has remained stagnant. The JERC does not permit that. We have put our proposal (tariff hike) before the Cabinet, let us see what happens,” Cabral said.
The Power Department has also decided to extend the One Time Settlement Scheme after an overwhelming response to it.
Cabral said that the department has recovered Rs 113 cr through the OTS scheme in the last one month. “After the tremendous response, we have decided that the scheme be extended for another one month up to January 31,” he said.
Explaining further, Cabral said many consumers have taken advantage of the scheme. “CCP has taken advantage of the scheme by paying Rs 2.37 cr. Rest of their amount has been waived off,” he said.
Cabral said that around 1.23 lakh consumers have been issued disconnection notices. “5865 connections have been disconnected so far while 9197 are permanently disconnected,” he said.
