The Bombay High Court at Goa has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to prepare a compliance report by September 27 over water issue at Porvorim.
The Division Bench comprising of Justice A S Oka and Justice F M Reis today pointed out that PWD has failed in giving the detailed time schedule on when and how the water will be released to the locals at Porvorim.
The PWD has assured that the every fortnight, time schedule will be issued to the water resources department.
The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by one Soter D’Souza, a resident of Socorro, complaining about acute water shortage in Porvorim and surrounding areas.
Following the court order of June 3, 2010, the executive engineer in his report had guaranteed that water supply would be made available to the areas of Porvorim at O Coqueiro, PDA Colony, Pundalik Nagar and JMJ Hospital for minimum of one hour daily under normal circumstances.
The PWD in its report has also asked court to recall its order of not giving water connections to more than ten units without permission.
“The report gives a fair idea that the water for the said four sumps is more than 10-11 MLD on an average and is sufficient for supply of water to the tail end of the Porvorim area,” the report reads.
“Those people who have invested in the dwelling units are unable to use their units since no water connections are released to such units due to the court order,” it added.
