PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council Chairperson Ritesh Naik, who secured his post as Chair after the no-confidence motion against him fizzled out on Friday, said that he is concerned about the weak financial condition of the civic body.

“My focus will be to increase the revenue of the PMC, to enable it to bear the administrative expenses including salaries, and help fund developmental work,” he said, adding that his target during the remaining four months of his tenure as Chairperson would be to complete all pending works in the town. “The Palika Bazaar Project will begin in January. Work on the new Shastri Hall building will begin after the Master Plan for Ponda is finalised, which will be ready by December 15. The Golden Jubilee project is in the final stage. The Sewerage Treatment Plant will be complete by December,,” said Naik, adding that the roads will be hot-mixed shortly, and renovation of the crematorium will also be taken up within his tenure.
Naik also said that the issue of the proposed hike in house and commercial taxes would be up for discussion, as the local businessmen were dead set against it.
“We will arrive at an amicable solution,” he said.
