MARGAO: In view of the incident that took place at Balli where two youth lost their lives in the 2011 riots, Tribal Affairs Minister Ramesh Tawadkar announced the that the department would be hosting a ‘Sankalp’ programme at Ravindra Bhavan on May 25 in their honour.
It maybe recalled that the two tribal youth Mangesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip had passed away on May 25 few years ago and Tawadkar stated that the event would be organised as way of paying respect to their memory.
“At this programme, we will explain the benefits and procedures to avail the benefits of 18 different schemes for tribal people,” said Tawadkar while adding that 55 percent of the budget had come from tribal welfare fund.
He added that the aim of the department was to reach out to the student community and the unemployed youth and they would create awareness about their department schemes and initiatives at this event.
He also announced that personalities would be felicitated at the event at the hands of Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and that top dignitaries including Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar would be present.
Sandhya Kamat, Director of the Tribal Welfare Department would be in charge of the function.
