PANJIM: The concerned citizens, who have been protesting against a construction that has come up in the protected area of Old Goa, will be holding a protest on Sunday, at Gandhi Circle Old Goa, at 10.30 am.

The group, which consists of locals, residents from different parts of Goa, heritage enthusiasts, professionals like architects as well as religious leaders have been questioning how permissions had been granted for the under-construction project that has come up near a protected monument at Old Goa — the Largo of St Cajetan, Viceroy’s Arch and St Cajetan Church.
The reason for their Sunday protest is the transfer of Archaeological Survey of India’s (ASI) Goa Circle Superintending Archaeologist Ramakrishna Amarnath, to Chennai.
The citizens pointed out that Amarnath had repeatedly, through official channels, voiced his objections in his official capacity against the project.
They further pointed out that ASI Goa Chapter has to submit an affidavit in the Supreme Court that has taken up a petition that has been filed regarding this issue.
The agitators have alleged that Amarnath’s transfer was deliberately done so as to control the ASI Goa Chapter’s reply to the Supreme Court in favour of the said construction project and prevent Amarnath from providing the correct picture to the court.
